In this age, we use technology for anything and everything. From waking up to the alarms in our phones to figuring out where we are going using the GPS in our phones. Technology has seeped into every aspect and activity of our lives. Seeing this it is actually quite surprising that the education sector has failed to reap the many rewards of technology. In most cases, school and teachers continue to use the same method of teachings that they have employed for the last few decades with little to no changes. As the world and all sectors continue to incorporate technology into their daily lives the education sector stays, sadly, behind. There are many ways that we can change teaching to incorporate technology, let us look at some of the ways.
Using educational websites more regularly. The internet is filled with many educational websites. They create fun, innovative and interactive ways for students to learn. Students of all grades and disciplines can find stuff useful to their subjects on the internet. Khan Academy is a great example of this. Students, teachers, and schools should more regularly make use of these sites. Teachers and schools should also encourage their students to use this website more. Once a teacher has covered a topic, they can give students links related to the topic to study. Teachers need to realize that books aren’t the only place where students can learn. The internet has a plethora of information which can be very beneficial to the students. Sometimes it can be hard to get reliable sources that are why teachers need to provide reliable sources or show students how to figure out which sources are reliable.
Another great aspect of the internet is how small the world has become. It is possible through video conference and other technologies to see the lectures of world-famous professors while being thousands of miles away from them. This is especially helpful for students who are in a remote location, or who for reasons cannot go to schools or classes. Though this way education can be assessable to many people who would have otherwise been unable to receive it. You no longer would have to get into Harvard to attend the lectures of a Harvard professor. Teachers can also upload videos of their classes; this will be helpful for any student who has missed the class.
Educations institutions should make more use of technological devices to change teaching. Smartphones, laptops, and tablets are incredibly convenient. Making proper use of them will not only help the students learn but will also make it easier. Students can also submit their assignments in softcopy form. It might also be easier for teachers to check assignments, give feedback and give out study materials through softcopy form.
Using technology will also make it easier for students and teachers to communicate. Through the use of email or social media, students can more regularly and quickly contact their teachers. Students can also participate in online discussion boards, forums, and portals.
These are just a few ways in which technology can be incorporated to change teaching and education. But honestly, there are countless other things that can be done. Upgrading the education system to include technology has, at this point, become a necessity. We not only need to teach students using technology but we also need to teach students how to properly use technology. Using technology appropriately has become a necessity, therefore students must learn how to use it.
